COTTAGE GROVE YAMAHA BIKE FEST PRESENTS:
MAY 3rd

Racing two weeks in a row usually isn't something that would seem so impressive. During the dog-days of summer the weather can be taken for granted and the thought of a rain-out is almost absurd, but early season racing is always up in the air and will always have something surprising waiting around the corner. Racing two weeks in a row happens to be that surprise this year. The weather this year could be considered anything but conducive to racing, we've jumped from high 70's, to snow, rain, back to the 70's and then what do you know... a normal day of weather for the time of the year. Who would have guessed?

Luckily the racing isn't lacking due to the weather. With the rains come a racy track, and with a racy track comes exciting driving. The All American Street Stocks started the night out with the pole sitter Don Frisbie spinning before the first lap was completed which sent him to the back of the pack. TJ Langan was able to dance by Ross Denton on the restart and didn't fall behind again. It was a nice consolation prize for Langan, as he failed to bring home the prom king crown several weeks before.

The Late Models seemed to follow a similar path as the AASS's as Don Muth Sr. passed Kevin Ropchan early in the race and was able to pull away from the rest of the field to come away with the victory. Paul Culp was able to battle his way through traffic to find himself in second place when all was said and done.

Jake Waddell and Brandi Bounds turned the Limited Sprint Main into a youth convention. Waddell grabbed the hole shot out of the gates and opened up a large lead heading into the first caution flag. Bounds trying for her 3rd straight was hampered by some quality driving by veteran Ozzie Osburn. Waddell was able to hold onto first to grab his first even Main Event win at the Grove, while also shutting the window on Bounds attempt at a three-peat.

After two failed starts in the Modified main Gus Cooper and Curtis Towns found themselves on the pole. Coopers fortune held as he was challenged by Jesse Williamson for the lead most of the race. As the checkered flag flew Cooper was able to come across in first with Williamson close behind.
