WELCOME TO THE 2008 RACING SEASON!

Some sunny and warm (almost hot!) weather welcomed fans and drivers alike to Cottage Grove Speedway this weekend for the first race of the 2008 season. Local drivers as well as a number of drivers visiting from Lebanon, Medford and Skagit brought their cars out of their garages to put on a show for the fans. With both Tech and Tune dates being cancelled earlier in the season, it was inevitable that there would be some crashes as drivers shook the rust off. As drivers settled in the fans were treated to some great racing (not that they weren't treated to some great crashes also!).

All American Street Stock
The All American Street Stocks got the season underway as they were the first class to race in the 2008 season. Tom Langan, of Jasper, set fast time of the night at 16.30 seconds as he sat in for his son TJ, who decided that the prom was more important than racing this weekend. Langan also won the heat race and earned the pole position for the main. During the main Langan dominated most the race until the last lap when Robert Wulbrandt of Springfield made the pass on the high side and picked up the season opening win. No word yet on whether or not TJ held up his end of the deal to win prom king...

Limited Sprints
Monty Smith of Springfield found himself setting fast time of the night at 11.906. In the only heat race of the night for the limiteds Brandi Bounds captured the win to set up a great main. In the main Bounds and Smith found themselves dueling it out wheel to wheel in the latter half of the race and just when it appeared Smith would win Bounds stuck to the inside and found herself in first place for her second career victory in the Limited Sprints.

Modifieds
Jesse Williamson of Coburg paced the field in qualifying by setting fast time at 13.563 seconds. In the first heat race Brett Muth and Robert Hand both of Cottage Grove dueled it out and Muth secured the victory. In the second heat Williamson found no obstacles in his way and won the heat with ease. For the main only a handful of drivers remained on the lead lap and Williamson's driving secured a win as well as the clean sweep for the night.

360 Sprints
With plenty of out of town drivers on hand it was for sure to be a good night with Roger Crockett of Medford picking up quick time 11.258. For the first heat J.J. Hickle of Quilcie WA was able to dominate the field and move to the next heat. In heat two Crockett found himself up front and able to win his heat and secure the pole for the main. In the main Jayme Barnes of Everett, WA had a great start to get by Crockett but Crockett gained on Barnes in lap traffic and made a late race pass to pick up a season opening win.

Late Models
With the Grove the only track able to race in Oregon there were Late Models galore and with the Warriors On Dirt Pacific Coast Fast Track in town the numbers swelled even more. Don Muth Sr. of Cottage Grove set fast time for the night. Heat one was picked up by Paul Culp of Springfield. Heat two meanwhile found Salem's Terry Ferrando on top when it was all said and done. In the final heat Portland's Greg Walters found himself on top and getting the win. In the B Main Lyn McDonald of Sweet Home led the field to earn a spot in the A Main. In the A Main, Muth and Walters were extremely competitive until they came to lapped traffic, in which Walters was able to out maneuver Muth to take the first win of the season as well as the ever important "Fast Track" win.
