Crockett rockets on opening night at Cottage Grove

Crockett rockets on opening night at Cottage Grove

Bryan Hulbert - COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 19, 2013) For the fifth time in his career, Roger Crockett parked the SKS Racing No. 11 in Lucas Oil ASCS victory lane. His second score of 2013 against the National arm of the ASCS Nation, the Medford, Ore. driver wired the night’s 25 lap Protect the Harvest A-Feature.

Changing his line up in the final laps, Crockett pulled to a 1.370 second advantage at the checkered flag. Asked why the change, Crockett replied, “The bottom was really wet and on the red flag and my crew told me that Johnny [Herrera] was rolling really good so I thought I would give it a whirl but at the end there I took a line from my old buddy Tim Kaeding and lived it up on the high side.”

Johnny Herrera gave chase from start to finish in the runner up spot, pulling up to the No. 11 at times in slower traffic but unable to complete the pass. Trying the bottom groove in the closing laps, Herrera was able to keep with Crockett on the restarts before falling back. “The top was the place to be here” commented Herrera. “We just paced with Roger there really well but on the longer runs it seemed like I started getting better, either that or he started slowing down. Lapped traffic would have played a big part if we could have got there but we had a good racecar.”

Herrera’s runner up finish was enough to propel the Print Place No. 45x back to the top of the Lucas Oil ASCS driver standings by 17 markers over Jason Johnson.

Trey Starks completed the top three, putting two ASCS Northwest Region drivers on the podium. “I think a lot of people underestimate just how good the competition is out here, and how good the Northwest guys are” commented Starks on the two out of three podium finish. “It’s great to show that here at one of our home tracks.”

Seth Bergman made the charge from thirteenth to fourth with Brad Loyet coming from tenth to complete the top five.

Jason Johnson advanced nine spots to grab sixth with Henry VanDam, and Dustin Morgan completing the top eight. Chad Noland raced out of the DMI Rear Ends B-Feature and came from twenty-first to ninth to earn the PitStopUSA.com Hard Charger of the Night with Colin Baker coming from eighteenth to round out the top ten.

The night included four Heat Races with Henry VanDam, Randy Pierce, Roger Crockett, and Trey Starks each garnering victories. The DMI Rear Ends B-Feature was won by Tony Bruce, Jr. who ended up eleventh in the A-Feature.

The Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real returns to the Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday, July 20 with race scheduled to begin at 6:30 P.M. (PDT).
