Cottage Grove Speedway would host the return of the World of Outlaw Sprints on Wednesday September 4th for the first time since 2011. Playing the role of support class was the DIRTcar Super Late Models. The DIRTcar Super Late Models have been the support class since 2007 when the Outlaws have rolled into town and in the five previous races there had been five different winners.

The twenty-five lap main event for the Late Models got underway with Coos Bay driver Eric Luckman setting the pace. Luckman would lead the opening lap in his Quadel Enterprises Inc./Lumber Outlet/Norway Industries #77L Rocket before being passed by Tangent sensation Trevor Glaser.

Glaser would secure the top position on lap two in his Bayer Crop Science/Crop Production Services/Farmland Tractor Supply #2 Trak-Star and would set a rapid pace as the main event laps would wind down. Lapped traffic didn’t really become a factor late in the race due to several cautions occurring within the first ten laps.

In the closing circuits Brian Cronk of Portland would start to reel in Glaser for the lead. The Metro Service/Dog Lover’s Gold #29 Rocket, of Cronk, was good on the bottom while Glaser preferred the top side. Glaser would briefly get held up in slower traffic but not enough to turn over first place. Glaser would hold off Cronk to win his third race of the season at the Cottage Grove Speedway and became the first driver to win a Late Model race on Outlaw night at “The Grove”.

Brian Cronk was a respectable second while crossing the line in third was the Cold Springs Resort/R.G. Remanufacturing #36 Rocket of Bend’s Shaun Mayea. Veneta’s Kevin Ropchan ended his evening in fourth in his Eugene Gutter Service/Quantum Mechanics/Gary Wilson Racing Engines #03 Swartz followed by the Nexdor Tobacco and More #72 GRT of Rick Trupp from Coos Bay.

The Cottage Grove Speedway will be back in action this Saturday night for Historical Night. The evening will feature displays of old photographs, news articles, racing memorabilia, old race cars, and the induction of the 2013 class to the CGS Hall of Fame. Classes that will be competing include the Northwest Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Hornets. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
