Cottage Grove, Oregon- The “Cooper Clan” has provided dozens of racers to the Cottage Grove Speedway in its storied fifty-plus year history. From Dave and Vern in the early days of CGS to the newest generation of Corey Russell and Austin McTaggart, the racing legacy of this family is showing no signs of slowing down. They have produced champions from Joe, Jeremy, and Gus Cooper, just to name a few, throughout the decades too.

But one driver who also has the surname of Cooper and a championship to his credit will be racing at the Saturday September 7th for Historical Night. His name? Ron Cooper. Ron Cooper has competed in nearly every division that has regularly run at “The Grove” throughout the years from the Sportsman ranks all the way up to 360 Sprints.

Cooper, the 1994 Cottage Grove Speedway Sportsman track champion, will be on hand for his second race at the historic ¼-mile clay oval in 2013. The first time he was out this season was back on August 24th a return date that brought an end to a hiatus that lasted several years. Cooper will be competing in the Northwest Extreme Sprints a division he has raced in off and on since the late 1990’s.

Tickets for the races on Saturday are $12.00 for Adults, Senior/Military/Junior (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children under the age of five are FREE. A Family Pass is offered for $30.00 which includes two Adults and up to four Youths. Pit gates open at 2:00 PM, front gates 4:00, time trials 5:30, and racing starts around 6:45.

The Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted fast and exciting action as far back as 1956. Since then the ¼-mile banked oval has been regarded as a place where fast times are set and plenty of side-by-side racing occurs. Regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets from the months of April till October every Saturday night. For more information be sure and visit the venue’s homepage www.cottagegrovespeedway.com or call the brand new Northwest Tracks Hotline at (360)-699-RACE.
