Saturday September 7th would mark another night of action packed excitement at the Cottage Grove Speedway. The evening would see the return of Historical Night for the induction of the 2013 class into the CGS Hall of Fame. Classes on hand for the historic ¼-mile clay oval would include the Northwest Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Hornets.

Dave Hibbard of Medford would dominate the field in the Northwest Extreme Sprint feature. Leading all twenty-five laps the only thing that would slow him down would be a lap nine caution. Hibbard on the restart would again but the go pedal down and went on to win his first career feature at CGS in his C&H Racing/Tangible Real Estate Investments/Dave’s Carpet & Vinyl Liquidators #3 Zeitler.

Mitch Hoffses from Beaverton would place the Schram Brothers Excavating/BDR Racing/eBay Motors #5 Rocket in second followed by Cottage Grove’s Danny Horner in his Horner’s Inc./Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/BC Motorsports #75H Maxim. The rest of the top five would consist of the Redmond Trucking/Independent Thinning #57 Rocket of Dusty Redmond from Roseburg in fourth and Kady Adelman of Salem in her BC Motorsports/Adelman Peony Gardens/Davison Auto Parts #6A Maxim in fifth.

The IMCA Modfieds put on another thriller of a main event. Ryan McTaggart of Cottage Grove would set a rapid pace early in the C&M Racing/Junction City Muffler Shop/Eco-Machine Technologies #3RL Shaw until losing the lead on lap five. Earning the position would be Craig Hanson of Albany the winner of the previous installment on Sunday September 1st.

Hanson would check out from the rest of the field as hard racing would occur directly behind him for second place on back. Hanson would cross the finish line first to earn his second straight main event win in his Virgil Hanson Automotive Machine/BSB Manufacturing/James Gang Pizza #33C Shaw.

Ryan McTaggart would end the evening in second while behind him in third was the Eastside Rollforming Specialties/BBQ Oil Barbeque Sauces/raceprint.com #10 Pro of Gus Cooper from Creswell. The Jerry Severson owned D&D Automotive/Vintage Inn Family Restaurant/West End Performance #7S Pro of Cottage Grove’s Braedon Hand was fourth and Curtis Towns, also from Cottage Grove, was fifth in his SKS Racing/Valley Rose Construction/X-Factor Race Cars #24 X-Factor.

Last but not least the Hornets were back in the swing of things. Dexter’s Mike Swaim would lead the opening circuits in his Rapid Delivery/Bigg Dogg Recycling #48 machine before being passed by Cottage Grove’s Mike Simmons. Simmons would earn the lead on lap four in his Industrial Finishes/Bill’s Automotive/Kimwood Corporation #34. But Simmons would lose the lead on lap eight to Taunton Swaim of Dexter.

Taunton Swaim would set a rapid pace and would have no issues the rest of the way as he went to win his third race of the season. It was the third straight victory in the division for the Randy Kuhl owned Bigg Dogg Recycling/A-1 Auto Supply #17 truck.

Mike Simmons was second and third went to the Material Fabrication/Meinke Car Care #28 of Chris Piece. The balance of the top five would consist of K.C. Scott from Springfield in his Dalton Carpet/Dr. Vape Products/T.L. Morgan Motors #30 in fourth and Mike Swaim ended his evening in fifth.

The Cottage Grove Speedway will be back in action on Saturday September 14th for the Mark Howard Memorial. Classes on tap will include 360 Sprints, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets. Also the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will take on the local competition for their final race of the 2013 campaign.
