Cottage Grove, Oregon- There is no doubt that the Northwest Extreme Sprints has been one of the major training grounds for the upcoming talent of both the 360 Sprints at Cottage Grove and even the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region. Drivers like Kyle Miller, Brendan Boyce, Jake Waddell, Dallas Zuniga, Danny Horner, and many others may have started out in Kage Karts but their first time behind a full-sized Sprint Car was in this class. 2014 looks like it will be a resurgence for the Northwest Extreme Sprints as several new faces plan to be racing in it as well as the return of some familiar ones as the division is scheduled for eleven races this seasons.

“I think this year the Northwest Extreme Sprint championship will be wide open,” said Cottage Grove Speedway General Manager Heather Boyce, “fans are going to see some new drivers but also some past drivers come back. Last year the car count was alright but now I think it will double. I’m excited to see how the young kids from Kage Karts that are moving up handle themselves personally I think they will do great. Also with some of the drivers of the past coming back will make it a lot of fun.”

Some new faces to see are thirteen-time Kage Kart champion Patrick Dills and former Northwest Extreme Sprint Car champion Hedge Carter’s son Colby who also ran Kage Karts for a few years. Some drivers you may see on occasion are last year’s champion Raquel Ivie as well as three-time champion Danny Horner. Things are definitely looking good for the Northwest Extreme Sprints in 2014.

2013 saw domination from the female competition with Kady Adelman and Raquel Ivie winning the majority of the features. Out of the nine races completed they both won six total and each of them visiting victory lane three times during the course of the season. Other feature winners included Nathan Ellertson, Dave Hibbard, and Dan Philpott. Ivie and Adelman had a great point battle for the entire season with Ivie winning the championship to become the second ever female champ in the division.

2012 was a season that saw six different winners in seven races and youngster Orion Redmond became champion by the year’s end. Redmond was the only driver to win multiple events with his two victories while joining him on the win chart with just a single triumph each included Allison Journey, Kyle Miller, Raquel Ivie, Mike Griffith, and Zack Spaulding.

There have also been some memorable point battles in the last few years. The 2010 edition came down to the last lap of the last race as Heath Shelton was able to finish just six points ahead of Zack Spaulding to win the title. Spaulding the next year would have a terrific battle with Mike Carrothers ending with Spaudling the champ by a mere twenty-three markers.

Be sure and don’t miss a minute of the action at the Cottage Grove Speedway this season. To find out the latest news and information regarding CGS log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
