Cottage Grove Speedway would host another nail biter on Saturday July 5th for the sixth and final leg of the 2014 Speedweek Northwest with the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region. Thirty-four entries signed in at the front gate representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Montana, and Arizona in addition to the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia as well as the Southland region of New Zealand.

The only things that would really slow down Lake Havasu City, Arizona’s Logan Forler would be the handful of cautions that would occur during the course of the thirty-five lap feature as well as some heavy lapped traffic. Forler would make some key passes in lapped traffic to create some separation from the rest of the field as he would lead the entire distance of the main event. It marked the first ASCS-Northwest win for Logan and his Steve Forler Trucking/P.G.H. Excavating/Lucas Oil Products/Rod Ends by LRD Race Products #2L Maxim team at CGS and his first win with the series since September of 2011.

“Last night I kind of messed up I got passed there with a few to go,” commented Logan Forler in victory lane, “I woke up this morning knowing that I was going to do everything I could to make sure I won. There was a lot of lapped traffic that was hard to get around but you just had to time it right and keep your nose clean.”

Finishing in second and putting Forler under pressure a few times was Colin Baker from Cottage Grove in the Hedge Carter owned Huddle Automotive Repair/Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/Oregon West RV/Hedge Carter Gutter Service/Astro Titanium #71 XXX in second while grabbing third in the closing stages of the race was Kyle Hirst out of Chico, California piloting the Finley Farms/CLT Logging/Carlson Trucking/Rider Racing Engines #77 Maxim for car owners Scott and Jason Finley. The balance of the top five would consist of the Kovash Logging/Johansen Excavating/FK Shocks/Big Al Kids and Motorsports Foundation #33V A.R.T. of Henry Van Dam from Enumclaw, Washington in fourth followed by Chico, California’s Jonathan Allard in the Clyde and Marion Lamar owned Tri-C Machine/Butler Built Seats/Platinum Powdercoating/K&N Filters #3C Maxim.

Heat race winners were Henry Van Dam, Jonathan Allard, the Cook Crane Corporation/Linder Powdercoating/Speedmart Inc./Rodgers Racing Engines #22 KPC of Garen Linder from Central Point, and Steven Tiner out of Visalia, California chauffeuring the Wright Process Systems/Larry Davis Farms/BR Motorsports/Elma Lanes #94 Maxim.

In the consolation feature J.J. Hickle of Quilcene, Washington, in his Meyer Electric/Go Fast Stuff/Speedmart Inc./Don Ott Racing Engines #3 XXX, would be the winner. When all of the points were calculated Kyle Hirst would be the overall Speedweek Northwest champion in 2014 and the first Californian to win the title since 2011 when Kyle Larson did it with the very same team.

The ASCS-Northwest Region will be back in action on Friday August 8th at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon followed by Saturday the 9th at Sunset Speedway Park in Banks for the final two nights in the state of Oregon. For more information log on to www.ascsnorthwest.com.
