In addition to the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region being on tap for Welt & Welt Inc. Night on Saturday July 5th, the Cottage Grove Speedway would have three other divisions in action. IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hornets would be support classes and all three would produce some exciting action at the historic ¼-mile clay oval.

A total of nineteen IMCA Modifieds signed in on the registration sheets. Kelly Williamson of Coburg would lead for the first handful of laps in his Royalty Homes/Furniture Option/X-Factor Race Cars #W6 Loose Gruff entry before being passed by Travis Peery. Peery, originally from Ft. Jones, California but now living in Williston, North Dakota, would take over the top spot on lap four.

The Susan River Reality/Precision Chassis Development #6P Precision, of Peery, would stay out in front until around lap eleven when Medford’s Tom Berry Jr. started to apply some pressure. Berry would seize the lead only for Peery to take it back on lap twelve.

Berry would regain the lead around lap seventeen and keep all challengers at bay to win his second career IMCA Modified feature and the first time he has done so at CGS. With the win Berry and the Berry’s Oak Grove Storage/B.R.E. Race Cars/Propane 2U/GaryMorganGraphics.com #11X B.R.E. became the fourth different winner at Cottage Grove in 2014.

Cory Sample of Winnemucca, Nevada was second in his Dakota Diesel/Susan River Reality #00 Razor while third went to Kelly Williamson. Phoenix’s Jeremy Richey crossed the line in fourth chauffeuring the Rapp Racing Engines/Jahnke Heating & Air/J-Rich Chassis #15J J-Rich and behind him in fifth would be Albert Gill from Medford in the Aardvark Construction #34 machine.

The Street Stocks would put on one heck of a show as it would be a three car battle in the caution free main event. Ethan Landers out of Bend would set the pace early in his Swan & Sons Woodworking/Smart Solutions/Les Schwab Tires of Bend #17Z Camaro but had the likes of two Cottage Grove natives, Evan Britton and Darin Crooks, hot on his heels.

Landers would keep all challengers in check for most of the race until Britton would make a key pass on lap twelve for the lead. Britton would stay out in front the rest of the way to win his third race of the season for him and the Dot’s Trophy Shop/Ollivant Timber Management/Howell Logging/Gilkison & Dad Inc. #85 Nova.

The Oregon Property Services #73 Monte Carlo of Darin Crooks was second followed by Ethan Landers. The balance of the top five would of Steve Begley from Eugene in fourth piloting his Nathan Anderson Dentistry/Platinum Hair of Creswell/Stacy Graves Massage Therapy #00 Nova and fellow Eugene driver Marena Starr in her Myshkin Ferguson Racing #7K Camaro in fifth.

Last but not least the Hornets would put on quite a show. Jim Simmons from Cottage Grove would lead early in the Froggy’s Towing/Marvin Smith Auto Repair/Body Works Salon #41 Honda Prelude only to get passed on lap two by Chris Pierce. Pierce, also from Cottage Grove, would keep his Froggy’s Towing/Meineke Car Care Center #28 Chevy Cavalier in front despite numerous challenges to capture his second win of 2014 at CGS.

The Burnett Builders/Thela’s Custom Jewelry #7C Nissan 200SZ of Josh Corley from Westfir was the runner-up and Dexter’s Taunton Swaim in the Randy Kuhl owned Bigg Dogg Recycling/DT Machine & Fab/Big B Tire/Rapid Delivery Services #17 Toyota Tacoma was third. Cottage Grove pilot Eric Cooper was fourth in his Eastside Rollforming Specialties/R&D Specialties #32 Nissan 200SX and Jim Simmons was fifth.

Cottage Grove Speedway will be in action on Saturday July 12th for Springfield Chamber of Commerce Night. Classes competing include the Northwest Wingless Tour, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, W.R.S. Late Model Lites, and Hornets. It will also be a Pepsi Family Night which means we will offer our normal Family Pass rate but folks that purchase one will receive complimentary soft drinks courtesy of Pepsi and the Bigfoot Beverage Company.

Pit Gates will open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates open at 4:00, and racing starts at 6:45. Tickets are Adults $12.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $5.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE and a Family Pass will be offered for two Adults and up to four Youths for just $35.00.
