In addition to the Rolling Thunder Big Rigs being in competition at the Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday July 19th there were three other classes on tap. Those included the BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprint Cars, Dwarf Cars, and Hornets.

Cottage Grove rookie Patrick Dills was on a mission in the BC Motorsports Northwest Extreme Sprints main event. Dills, in his All Seasons Equipment/Keith Whitaker Trucking/Inside Line Promotions/BC Motorsports #5D Hurricane, would lead the first nineteen laps before Danny Horner would make a move for the lead. Horner, also from Cottage Grove, would stay out in front for the rest of the distance to put his Horner’s Inc./Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/BC Motorsports #75H Maxim in victory lane for the third time this year.

Patrick Dills would be a respectable second followed by the RCV Custom Coach Service/William & Mathis Accounting/Cobalt Computer Services/Commonwealth Financial Network/All Around Printing #4 XXX of Creswell’s Jesse Thistle in third. The rest of the top five would be made up of Cottage Grove’s Colby Carter in his Huddle Automotive Repair/Oregon West RV/Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/Hedge Carter Gutter Service/Astro Titanium #71JR Lunatik Fringe in fourth and in fifth Dave Hibbard from Medford in the C&H Motorsports/Tangible Real Estate Investments/Dave’s Carpet and Vinyl Liquidators/Southern Oregon Veteran Benefit #3 Zeitler.

The Dwarf Car main event would be a thriller too as Dylan Chrisman of Albany would grab the early lead in his Drager Performance #66S M&M entry. Chrisman would lose the lead on lap three to Castle Rock, Washington’s Guy Tow Jr. in the Two Guys Racing/Fusion Graphix/Hicks Family Raicng #37 Ebling.

Tow would pace the field for a few laps until Portland’s Ryan Martinez would get to the top spot on lap five. Martinez would try and create some distance between his Auto Truck Wholesale/St. John’s Tire Factory/Van Raden Industries #9 M&M and the rest of the field but he had some fast company.

One of them was John Chrisman from Albany in the Drager Performance #88S M&M. Chrisman would put an enormous amount of pressure on Martinez but Chrisman couldn’t quite make it around him. Martinez would hold on for the win to earn his third victory at CGS in 2014.

John Chrisman was a close second while third was Guy Tow Jr. James Brinster of St. Helens in hid MAPS Auto Center/FinishLine #2 Hot Rod was fourth and in fifth was fellow St. Helens pilot Dennis Liebig in the Blueline Transportation #777 Hot Rod.

Last but not least the Hornets would have quite an exciting feature. Securing the lead on lap two the Quality RV Repair/Burnett Builders/Thela’s Custom Jewelry #7C Nissan 200SX of Josh Corley from Westfir was mighty quick. Corley would create a fair amount of distance between himself and the main pack.

Corley would exit turn four to accept the white flag only for a flat right rear tire to go flat shaking things up quite a bit. Chris Pierce of Cottage Grove would be there to capitalize and seize the lead. Pierce would win the race putting his Froggy’s Towing/Meineke Car Center/Bigg Dogg Recycling #28 Chevy Cavalier in the winner’s circle for the fourth straight occasion.

Vancouver, Washington’s Travis Koch was second in the North’s Plumbing/Dusty’s Automotive/Mac Tools/Dan’s Cylinder Heads #21 Dodge Neon while in third was Joe Maricle of Veneta in his Maricle Stainless #11 Toyota Celica GT. The balance of the top five would comprise of the Randy Kuhl owned Bigg Dogg Recycling/DT Machine & Fab/More of Everything Racing Collectibles/Big B Tire #17 Toyota Tacoma of Taunton Swaim from Dexter while behind him was his father Mike Swaim, also from Dexter, in the Send Transportation/ Bigg Dogg Recycling/DT Machine & Fab/Big B Tire #48 Toyota Tacoma.

Cottage Grove Speedway will be ultra-busy next week as they host four races in the span of five nights. CGS will have the Wild West Modified Speedweek on Tuesday July 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd featuring the best IMCA Modified chauffeurs in the Pacific Northwest.
