Cottage Grove, Oregon- Gresham's Phillip Johnson is ready to get back to racing with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series. The tour will be headed to Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday May 9th for their second race of the season. After a week off the Jackhammer Trucking/T&G Trucking/Pagel Towing #79 Rayburn, of Johnson, is looking to build off of his fourth place run at Sunset Speedway Park on April 25th.

“It's a little too early to tell how the season's going but I got a new chassis and it's a lot different one than my old car,” commented Johnson.

Phillip is still running a Rayburn chassis it's just a newer frame. Saturday will be the second time that he will run at CGS. His first race was April 19th of last year and he ended up eleventh.

“I love that track,” he would continue, “the way Rayburns work they get a lot of forward drive and they come off the corners really fast.”

Johnson had a great 2015 season finishing ninth in points and picking up a huge victory at Madras Speedway last May. And once again he'll be sporting his Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wrap.

“My goal this weekend is to get more comfortable with this new car and more laps under my belt.”

The Cottage Grove Speedway local Late Models will be competing against the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series which is sure to produce some wonderful racing. Other classes on hand are the Northwest Wingless Tour, IMCA Modifieds, and the Quality RV Repair Hornets.
