Gilman Begins 2015 Season At CGS For Northwest Wingless Tour Opener
By Ben Deatherage
Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday May 9th will be the 2015 debut of Forest Grove native Jake Gilman. Gilman will be competing against the Northwest Wingless Tour in his Top Coat Powder/Pure Addiction Diesel/Randy Busser Sandblasting #15R Maxim at Cottage Grove Speedway. He's pretty excited to tackle the historic 1/4-mile clay oval where he has four career starts.

“We went to Banks a few weeks ago and played around during their practice day with the new car,” said Gilman, “I'm pretty excited to go back to racing.”

What is nice about Gilman's racing program is that it is entirely a family affair. Some families camp, go to the coast, or other activities every weekend but Jake's family goes to the races together. And one track they all like attending is Cottage Grove.

“It's the premier Sprint Car track in my opinion and it's where we plan to run ninety-percent of our races this season.”

In 2015 he enters the NWWT season with a Non-Wing specific car acquired over the offseason. Last year Gilman was third in final points and posted three top fives in five starts. His best finish was a runner-up finish in the feature at Sunset Speedway Park on July 26th. The best result at CGS was a seventh on May 3rd. So what is his goal this weekend?

“I have one goal every race and that's to put the car in the trailer at the end of the night and to learn and improve.”

Besides the Northwest Wingless Tour at Cottage Grove Speedway the Northwest Extreme Late Models Series, IMCA Modifieds, and Quality RV Repair Hornets will all be in action.
