Despite some scorching weather Cottage Grove Speedway would have some wonderful racing on Saturday July 18th. The historical 1/4-mile clay oval would host Bohemia Mining Days Miner's Night in honor of the local festival paying tribute to Cottage Grove's mining past. Classes in action included the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, and Quality RV Repair Hornets.

The Bi-Mart/Three Rivers Casino/Brook's Cut Rate Auto Parts #70 XXX of Raquel Ivie, from Eugene, would set the early pace. Leading on lap one she would eventually be overtaken by another female driver, Chelsea Blevins. The Janesville, California teenager, of Blevins, got to the front on lap two and stayed there for some time in her Tri-C Machine #1B A.R.T.

Blevins would blaze the trail until lap six when Orion Redmond made a move. Redmond, of Roseburg and piloting the Redmond Trucking/Umpqua Sand & Gravel/Double R Powdercoating/Ken's Dry Cleaning #12 J&J, would set sail from the rest of the pack. Orion would be slowed down by a couple of cautions but besides that he had the field covered. He would be the first car to the checkered flag and win his first race of the season.

Penngrove, California's Michael Kofoid would start to reel in the leader late but eyed up second in his LaChance Kofoid Enterprises/Dan Simpson Racing/DES Inc./Red Line Oil #3K Maxim while the Jacob Daniels Attorney at Law/Oregon State Representative Cedric Ross Hayden/All Seasons Equipment/LaChance Kofoid Enterprises #5D entry of Patrick Dills from Cottage Grove in third. Chelsea Blevins was fourth and Dave Hibbard of Medford was fifth in his son's, Bailey, mount C&H Motorsports/Dave's Carpet & Vinyl Liquidators/Tangible Real Estate Investments #1 Maxim.

The IMCA Modified feature would see Jake Mayden of Springfield lead the pack in the first few laps. Mayden, chauffeuring the Embers Bar & Grill/Springfield Tire Factory/T.L. Morgan Motors/Clint Willis Racing Engines #5M Dirt Works, would hold first place until shortly after a lap three restart. Curtis Towns would be the one getting the lead from Mayden. Towns would keep his Superior Fuel Cells/IBEW Local 280/Valley Rose Construction #24 X-Factor in front to win his third race of 2015.

The Springfield Tire Factory/Tan Republic/Superior Fuel Cells #11 X-Factor of Steven Sturdevant, from Springfield, was second followed by Jake Mayden in third. The rest of the top five would comprise of Cottage Grove's Kreg Britton in his Commonwealth Financial Network/Dot's Trophy Shop/Mickey's Affordable Auto Sales/Superior Fuel Cells #77 X-Factor in fourth with fifth place belonging to Steve Walker, from Central Point, in the Walker Racing #7W Jet.

The IMCA Sport Mods would have their best car count of the year. Springfield native Jayson Nelson would take advantage of his front row starting position. Nelson, driving his Quality RV Repair/Pro Auto Works/Springfield Tire Factory #51N BMS, would actually stay in front for quite some time. Nelson would lose the lead on lap nine to Jordan Braaten of Central Point. Braaten would continue to lead in the Braaten Painting/Quench & Drench Car Wash/Miller Paint Company/Cloud Maintenance #84 Dirt Works and picked up his first win in his first CGS B-Mod appearance.

Jasper's Gene Ashley was second in the Ashley Family Racing/A-1 Auto Supply/Furniture Options #85 machine and behind him in third would be the Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/Quality RV Repair/Devine Continuous Gutters/Bonnichson Auto Repair #38 entry of Jimmy Owen from Cottage Grove. Jayson Nelson ended his evening in fourth followed by Cottage Grove's Tyler Smith in his Ashley Family Racing/A-1 Auto Supply/Furniture Options/Kirk Racing #73 Harris in fifth.

Last but not least was the Quality RV Repair Hornets. Springfield's Daniel Ray was very fast in the Randy Kuhl owned DT Machine and Fabrication/Rapid Delivery Service/Bigg Dogg Recycling/A-1 Auto Supply #71 Mistubishi Mirage. Ray would be passed on lap seven by Brandon Letsom of Marcola. Letsom kept his Letsom Racing #23 Toyota Echo in front the rest of the way to win his third race of the current campaign.

Daniel Ray was second and in third would be Cottage Grove's Jim Simmons in the Kool Beans Espresso/Marvin Smith Auto Repair/Body Works Salon #89 Honda Accord in third. Springfield driver K.C. Scott would end the night fourth in his Dr. Vape Products/Quantum Mechanics/Big B Tire #30 Maza Protege and the Quality RV Repair/AP Media/Froggy's Towing #28 Acura Integra of Cottage Grove's Chris Pierce would get fifth.

Cottage Grove Speedway will host the Kage Karts on Friday July 24th for their fifth race of the season. General admission to the Kart race will be FREE of charge. Pit Passes are $10.00 and Car and Driver fees will be $30.00. The Pit Gate will open up around 3:00 PM and the Pit Meeting is at 6:00 PM with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.

Then on Saturday July 25th is $1,000.00 to win Clark Printing Extreme Sprint special event presented by Herz Precision Parts. There will be several Sprint Car teams from the Pacific Northwest looking take home the prize money. Other classes in action will include the Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Quality RV Repair Hornets, and the Late Model Lites.

Admission prices are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors/Military $10.00, Youths (Ages 6-12) $5.00, 5 & Under FREE, and a Family Pass (consisting of two adults and up to four youths) is $35.00. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Qualifying 5:30, and Racing begins right around 6:45. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
