Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Northwest Focus Midget Series would visit Cottage Grove Speedway for their first and only time in 2016. Fourteen cars, all from the state of Washington, would make the journey to the Oregon ¼-mile clay oval.

In the main event Nick Evans was the dominate force for much of the race. Evans, Granite Falls and piloting his Gary Kallicott Landscape Service/Wirth Brothers/Paraiso Mexican Restaurant/Pied Pieper Pub #24 Stealth, would get the lead on the opening lap. With just a few laps to go Evans would have some fast company right on his rear tail tank.

Evans would be passed on lap nineteen by Snohomish’s Chance Crum. Crum would stay in the position the rest of the way to win the race. It is the second occasion in 2016 that the Clean Crawl/Air Van Moving/Joe’s Racing Products #83 Beast has visited victory lane with the Northwest Focus Midget Series.

The Brownfield Gang/Olympic Machinery/Blood’s Old School Autoworks/Martelli Distributing #14 Spike, of McCleary driver Garrett Thomas, would edge out Nick Evans for second place at the line. Burlington’s Tristin Thomas managed to finish fourth in his MyTrafficMan.net/Superior Auto/Factory Kahne Shocks/Les Schwab Tire Center of Sedro Woolley #9T XXX, while rounding up the top five in fifth was Ryan Cully, of Alger, in the Highline Performance/DLH Racing Products/Cully’s Shirt Shack/Landshark Media #21J XXX.

Tristin Thomas was fast time of the night in time trials. Heat race winners were Thomas and the OPC Exclusive Welding & Fabrication/Triple X Race Co./Whirly Ball #25 XXX, piloted by Smokey Point driver Michael Hodel. Nick Evans was the trophy dash winner.

The Northwest Focus Midget Series will be in action for two races this coming weekend. It all starts off at Deming Speedway on Friday June 3rd followed by Skagit Speedway on Saturday the 4th.
