Cottage Grove, Oregon- The biggest Late Model event of Cottage Grove Speedway’s 2017 schedule will take place on Saturday, August 12th. The Loggers Cup is an event that was resurrected a few seasons ago after an enormous hiatus. It started out in the 1980’s as a large event for the Super Stock division that inhabited CGS. The payout on Saturday night is $2000.00 to win and $150.00 to start (full payout listed below).

Curtis Towns won the 2015 edition while last year it would be John Duty winning a thriller of a main event in 2016. Already in 2017 Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted ten Late Model races. Curtis Towns and Blaine Taylor each have two wins to their credit while Kye Frick, Jimmy Whisler, Darren Coffell, Trevor Glaser, Collen Winebarger, and Joey Tanner have obtained one win each. Whisler and Winebarger were the two drivers that bested the field last Friday and Saturday.

The format will be a point based structure that are used for the night only and not for the year’s end standings. There will be two laps of time trials with fastest lap being recorded as the official time. The qualifying order will be determined by pill draw and the fastest qualifier will receive fifty points with a one point drop off for every spot behind first (i.e. second fast forty-nine, third fast forty-eight, etc.). If there is over thirty cars qualifying will be split into two groups.

The eight lap heat races will feature an inversion of six cars (fastest qualifier starts heat race one in sixth, second quick starts sixth in heat two, etc.) with the winner receiving fifty points and a three point drop off beyond that. Points from Qualifying and Heats will be combined to determine the starting lineups.

The top six overall will be locked into the trophy dash and redraw for starting positions. The five lap affair will determine the starting lineup for the first three rows with the winner starting on the inside pole position. If there are enough cars for a B Main the top sixteen will be locked into the show.

If there is one B Main the driver seventeenth in points will be on the inside pole. Also if there is just a single B the top four will transfer to the feature or if there is two Bs then the top two in each will move along. The A Main is scheduled to start twenty cars for forty laps.

Times for Saturday are Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing is scheduled to start around 6:30. Tickets are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors $10.00, Youth (6-12) $5.00, Family Pass $30.00, and Children 5 or under are FREE. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
