Shane Picks Off Pair of Top-10’s for ROCKSTAR/Makita

PETERSEN MEDIA- For over a week, Shane Stewart and his Silva Motorsports team sat in the Pacific Northwest, watching it rain and wash out yet another weekend of events. This weekend the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour shifted to Cottage Grove, OR and Stewart climbed back into the cockpit of his ROCKSTAR/Makita backed sprinter and picked up fifth and seventh place finishes over the weekend.

On Friday night, a sixth to second run in his heat race transferred the Lucas Oil Products/Cross Creek Trucking/A.R.T. mount directly into the feature and the top eight redraw, where Shane would pull a seven pill, lining him up in the fourth row for the 30-lap contest.

The unusually tacky Cottage Grove Speedway made passing tough early in the feature, as Stewart grabbed the sixth spot with the waving of the green flag.

As the race slowed early due to a pair of cautions, Stewart was able to muscle his way past Jeff Swindell to take over the fifth spot.

As laps continued to tick off at a fast pace with the hooked up track, Shane put pressure on the fourth running, Johnny Herrera, over the final circuits for the fourth spot, but took the checkered flag on the bumper of Herrera’s No.45x machine.

Saturday night got off to a strong start for the Pro Bilt Construction/Palmero Properties/Wesmar powered machine, as Stewart capitalized on his pole starting spot in his heat picking off the win, and transferring directly into the 35-lap finale.

Rolling off in the eighth spot, Stewart held his spot over the early stages of the race as he utilized both the high side and the bottom of the track as he worked toward cracking the top five.

After getting past Seth Bergman on the 10th circuit to grab the seventh spot, Stewart was then able to muscle his was around Johnny Herrera to move into the sixth spot on the 13th lap.

As laps continued to click off, Stewart began applying heavy pressure to Roger Crockett for the fifth spot with 10-laps remaining.

On the 21st lap, Stewart drifted high, and off the racing surface and dropped from his sixth spot back to the ninth spot.

Over the last 14-laps, Stewart was able to regroup his ROCKSTAR/Makita No.57 machine and work his way back to the seventh spot as the checkered flag flew.

“This wasn’t exactly the weekend we had hoped for here at Cottage Grove,” explained Stewart. “Friday the track was tricky and a little different then it has been in the past and passing was tough, and tonight we were okay, and I think we were better then a seventh place car, but I have to thank Paul, ROCKSTAR/Makita and all my sponsors for getting me out here.”

The Silva Motorsports team thanks ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK, Makita Industrial Power Tools, Lucas Oil Products, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, Pro Bilt Construction, Palmero Properties, Cross Creek Trucking, Finley Farms, Car and Fleet, Race Gear X, OMP Racing, Wesmar Racing Engines, McColloch’s RV, Shift Creative, Amerikote, XYZ, Hoosier Tire, Pro, Banshee Graphics, Dan Olson Products, K&N Filters, RE Technologies, Weld, Schoenfeld Headers, Butlerbuilt Seats, Vortex Wings, CP Pistons, Cometic Gaskets, Huggins Cams BR Ignitioneering and Seven Industries for their partnership in 2011.

ON TAP: Up next for the ROCKSTAR/Makita team will be a trip back to California for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s first trip to the high-banked Placerville Speedway in Placerville, CA. The last time Stewart and his Silva Motorsports team visited the tight bullring, Stewart was victorious after a hard fought battle with the late Jesse Hockett in 2009.
