Johnny Herrera

About Johnny

Johnny was born September 11, 1966 in Denver, Colorado. His family moved to Alburuerque, NM at the age of 4, where he was raised. He began his racing career in 1985 in Albuquerque. In 1986 Johnny was named World of Outlaws "Most Improved Driver", he continued to run with the World of Outlaws off and on while he ran othr series. He ran a total of 13 years full time with the World of Outlaws. In 1995, Johnny won the sprint car championship at Knoxville Raceway. Johnny won the 1996 King's Royal race with a collapsed top wing, where he won the $50,000 winner's purse by leading all 30 laps. In 2002 & 2003 Johnny drove the 2W for former NASCAR crew cheif Billy Wilburn and won the first night out in the car during a preliminary World of Outlaws race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Johnny has driven several different race series, in 2007 he drove the SCOA (a winged sprint car series based in Arizona) where he was the points champion. He was also the Hollywood Hills Speedway non-winged class points champion that same year. In 2011 Johnny the ASCS National Tour where he continues to run. His first year with ASCS he made an exciting run throughout the season, coming down to the last race of the season in Tucson, AZ to determine the championship between Shane Stewart and Hollywood Herrera. In his four years with ASCS he has had two 2nd place finishes and two 4th place finishes in points. During Johnny's career he has 138 feature victories. The 2015 season will be Johnny's 30th Anniversary, he will run the ASCS National Tour full time along with some ASCS Regional and World of Outlaw races.

Herrera began his sprint car racing career in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1986 Johnny was named World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year. He won the WoO "Most Improved Driver" award in 1991.[1]

In 1995, he won the sprint car track championship at Knoxville Raceway.[1] Herrera won the 1996 King's Royal sprint car race with a collapsed top wing.[1] He earned the $50,000 winner's purse by leading all 30 laps.[1]

In 2002 and 2003, Herrera joined drove the 2W for former NASCAR crew chief Billy Wilburn, and won the first night out in the car during a preliminary World of Outlaws race the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The driver has recently raced in non-winged racecars in the United States, and he has won the Roger McCluskey Classis at Tucson's USA Raceway.

Johnny Herrera was points champion in 2007 in both SCOA (a winged sprint car series based in Arizona) and Hollywood Hills Speedway Non winged class.

Johnny made an exciting run throughout the 2011 ASCS National Sprint Car Season as it came down to the very last race in Tucson, AZ to determine the champion between Shane Stewart and Hollywood Herrera!
