Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 26, 2016) – Patrick Dills is heading into the biggest 360ci sprint car event of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway, which hosts the Marvin Smith Memorial this Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day event is culminated with a 41-lap main event on Sunday honoring the late Marvin Smith – a former track champion and local favorite who passed away in November 2013.

“Everybody loved Marvin and he is still missed at the track each week,” he said. “I grew up watching Marvin race so it’s an honor to be able to take part in his memorial event.”

Dills has competed in the two previous Marvin Smith Memorial events at the quarter-mile oval. He placed 10th in the B Main in 2014 before ending 14th and 18th in the doubleheader last year.

“We broke an axle last year on the final night so we didn’t get the result we were aiming for,” he said. “We’ve really improved our 360 program and I think we can contend for a couple of top-five finishes this weekend.”

Dills placed eighth during this year’s season opener, which is the only 360 sprint car event he’s been able to participate in this season thanks to poor weather. However, Dills has captured two podiums, three top fives and four top 10s in six 360 races at Cottage Grove Speedway since last season’s Marvin Smith Memorial.

“We know we can put together good laps at Cottage Grove Speedway and that we can run up front,” he said. “The goal for this weekend is to be consistent and set ourselves up to be in contention once the green flag waves for the main event each night.”
