Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway was in action on Friday, April 23rd for the Spring Fling doubleheader weekend. Unfortunately, wet weather washed away the program for the Saturday portion. Friday night had three divisions on tap including one a part of the Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing program. Classes in attendance were 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Street Stocks.

The 360 Sprints made their return to Cottage Grove Speedway after being absent since late 2019. Central Point’s Garen Linder got out to the front on the opening start of the main event. Linder remained at his post until he was overtaken shortly after a restart. It was Jodie Robinson, of Roseville, California, who managed to get past Linder.

Robinson paced the field for some time but had to deal with a pair of cautions which gave her an open race track and no lapped traffic to deal with. After returning to green flag action on lap thirteen Garen Linder made a bonsai move and passed Jodie to claim first place at the line. The race would stay green for the rest of the distance.

In the long run, Linder had to deal with the tail end of the lead lap field. It was an opportunity in which Robinson caught, and eventually passed, Garen on lap twenty-six. Jodie Robinson went on to win the feature in her first career CGS appearance.

Garen Linder was a strong second while Jacksonville teenager Tanner Holmes got third. Meridian, Idaho traveler Tyler Driever ended his night fourth while seventeenth starting Tyler Thompson, from Harrisburg, placed fifth.

For the IMCA Modifieds, Paul Rea set the pace in the first few laps. The Eugene veteran was at the point of the pack until lap three when Jeffrey Hudson managed to get around him. Hudson, from the central Oregon town of Keno and racing for car owner Don Roemer, stayed there for the majority of the race.

Hudson was overtaken late, on lap eighteen, by Albany’s Bricen James. James had to deal with a couple of stoppages which meant he had to deal with a handful of restarts. Bricen would master each of them and the seventh starting driver went on to win his first race of the entire 2021 campaign.

Corbett chauffeur Collen Winebarger got second while third place was credited to Curtis Towns, of Cottage Grove. Albany’s Matthew Drager and Otis teenager Eston Whisler were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.

Lastly in the Street Stocks main event, Anthony Prather was quick in the early goings. The Keizer youngster remained in the coveted top spot before eventually being overtaken. It was Donald Schott, from Eagle Creek, who was the new trailblazer. Only one caution occurred during the entire race and Schott checked out from the rest of the pack to go on for the victory.

Graig Osborne, of Creswell, finished in second while third went to Molalla native P.J. Humphrey. Brody Humphrey, also from Molalla, ended the race fourth while Dexter’s Mike Swaim was fifth.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, May 1st for the Froggy 44 Tribute To Melvin Walker. This is the biggest IMCA Sport Compact event of the season and is $444.00 to win. Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, and Royalty Core IMCA Northern Sport Mods will also be in attendance. Limited tickets are available and can be purchased online at the track website.
