Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday, August 7th, was the second and final night of the 2021 Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic. $4100 would go to the winner of the forty-one-lap main event for the 360 Sprints. Late Models and IMCA Sport Compacts were also in attendance.

Puyallup, Washington’s Trey Starks was the pilot to dominate the competition. Starks earned his first career Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic triumph in his first win at CGS in 2021. Garen Linder, from Central Point, posted a second-place result while third place was Harrisburg’s Tyler Thompson. The rest of the top five consisted of Meridian, Idaho teenager Tyler Driver and Mill Creek, Washington traveler Cam Smith, in fourth and fifth.

Cottage Grove’s Mike Peters scored a massive win for his brother car owner, Ed Peters. It is the second time that Mike has won in the Late Models at Cottage Grove. Albany driver Randy Barley and Jody Tanner, from Portland, were second and third. Cottage Grove native Rob Williams ended the race fourth over fifth finishing Brian Hubert of Redding, California.

Last but not least was the IMCA Sport Compacts. Sutherlin’s Burnie Bryant found his way back to victory lane. Bryant now has put together six wins at “The Grove” and in KMJ Performance Oregon State action. His last triumph was on July 16th.

Michael Kennerly of Oakland and Salem driver Scarlett Drake were second and third. Jasper’s Andrew Langan, racing for car owner Randy Kuhl, finished fourth, and Ryan Dickenson, from Roseburg, wound up fifth.

Cottage Grove Speedway has a quick turnaround as they have racing action on Monday, August 9th, and Tuesday, the 10th. The Wild West Modified Shootout will be in the house featuring IMCA Modifieds and Royalty Core IMCA Northern Sport Mods.
