Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the second and final night of the 2018 Mark Howard Memorial Modified Nationals on Saturday, July 21st. The Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds would once again be the headliner with the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints, IMCA Sport Mods, and Street Stocks in action as the support divisions. Thirty-five IMCA Modifieds would fill the pit area Saturday.

Collen Winebarger, via winning the scramble, took full advantage of his pole starting position in the fifth-two lap finale for the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds. The Corbett chauffeur would completely dominate the race with no obstacles or stoppages to slow him down. Only four drivers would remain on the lead lap as Winebarger stayed up front during the non-stop affair to go on to sweep the weekend and win his first career Mark Howard Memorial Modified Nationals.

John Campos, from Keizer, was second followed by Albany’s Bricen James, in third. Jesse Williamson, of Eugene, placed fourth over fifth finishing Cottage Grove native Curtis Towns. Steven Sturdevant, from Springfield, and Central Point driver Andy Freeman were the two consolation feature winners.

Tyler Thompson was the car to beat in the Todd’s Auto Body Sprint main. Seizing the lead on lap two the Harrisburg teenager maintained the top spot for some time. Eventually he would ran down in traffic and passed on the twenty-second circuit by Jake Helsel. Helsel kept his mount in front of the rest of the field the rest of the distance allowing for the Monroe, Washington driver to pick up the win.

Tyler Thompson was second and Cottage Grove’s Kinzer Cox placed third. There rest of the top five would consist of Steven Snawder, from Roseburg, in fourth and Cottage Grove veteran Hedge Carter grabbing fifth.

In the IMCA Sport Mods it would be utter dominance by Jorddon Braaten. The Central Point gasser would once again be up on the wheel and held on to first place the entire distance. It would be his sixth win of the current campaign at CGS. Eugene’s Art Hiatt ended his evening in second over third place Shawn Hand, of Springfield. Matt Sanders, from Brookings, was fourth while Justin McCreadie, of Phoenix, getting fifth. Molalla’s Travis Pruitt won the consolation main.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns for Kart racing on Friday, July 27th followed by Dollar Days on Saturday, the 28th. General Admission on Saturday will be just $1.00 to get into the races. Classes racing include the Interstate Sprint Car Series, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and Quality RV Repair Hornets. For more information log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
