Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Summer Thunder Sprint Series would be back at Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday, August 4th and so would the IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks while the IMCA Sport Mods joined the card for their only night of the weekend. All three-support division had some decent car counts and produced some wonderful racing.

In the IMCA Modifieds it would be a bit of a caution plagued affair. C.J. Putnam, in the Don Romer owned entry, collected the lead on lap one. The White City pilot received a bit of pressure from some challengers but managed to keep them in check. However, on the twentieth circuit Bricen James made it past Putnam. James held on for the win, his sixth of the season, and the second consecutive for the young man from Albany.

There would be several stoppages in the IMCA Spot Mod feature as well. Shawn Hand, now living in Springfield, showed the way early and held the position till lap five. Justin McCreadie, from the southern Oregon town of Phoenix, was the driver that managed to get around Hand. McCreadie would have a major battle for the lead with Central Point’s Jorddon Braaten.

Braaten was scored the leader on lap fourteen and from there on out it would be an all-out melee. The two drivers would be side by side with one edging the other lap after lap. Braaten held McCreadie off in the final turns to win his eighth win at CGS and his eighth straight victory at the historical ¼-mile clay oval.

Lastly, in the Street Stocks Andrew Langan would take care of business. The Jasper native managed to seize the lead on the first circuit and remained there the entire time. With a number of yellow flag incidents Langan had to be on his “A game” on restarts which he managed to handle successfully. The victory would mark the fourth occasion he has bested the field at CGS.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing for two nights for the Logger’s Cup weekend. Friday, August 10th, will be a Fast Friday and will have a special General Admission rate of $5.00 to get into the races. Late Models will headline the weekend with support classes on Friday being IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Mods. The IMCA Modifieds return on Saturday, the 11th, with the Quality RV Repair Hornets and Super Sports also on the card. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
