Cottage Grove, Oregon- In addition to the Summer Thunder Sprint Series at Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday, August 2nd so were the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds. The class played the role as the support division, and a total of twenty-three drivers made the trip to the ¼-mile clay oval.

Steven Sturdevant, of Springfield, set the tone early in the main event. Sturdevant was overtaken shortly after a lap four restart by Mark Carrell. Carrell, from Redmond, officially took over the coveted top spot on lap six. There he remained to conquer the field for the first time in a long time at Cottage Grove.

Klamath Falls’ Nick Trenchard was second, racing for car owners Rich and Nikki Biehn, while grabbing third would be Bricen James, of Albany. Coquille’s Ryan Baker ended his evening in fourth while Evan Britton, from Cottage Grove, completed the top five finishers, in fifth.

Evan Britton was the fast time of the evening award winner, and Springfield’s Jake Mayden won the Dot’s Trophy Shop Dash. Winners of heat race action were Nick Trenchard, Cottage Grove’s Ray Bloom, and John Campos, of Keizer.

Cottage Grove Speedway is back to racing on Saturday, August 3rd. The Summer Thunder Sprint Series and Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds will be back. Added as support classes for Saturday’s program is the Street Stocks and Hornets.
