Cottage Grove, Oregon- Tuesday, August 13th saw the cars and stars of the Northwest Dwarf Car Speedweek venture to Cottage Grove Speedway. It marked the second of two consecutive nights of racing at “The Grove.” Thirty-three cars made the trip to the venue from all of the western United States as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The feature started with a thrilling battle upfront for the first handful of laps. Scappoose driver Jake Van Ortwick was scored the leader on the opening lap but lost the spot on the following circuit. Shane Youngren got up on the wheel and passed Van Ortwick on lap two. Youngren, of Tigard, remained there for a short amount of time before getting shuffled out the coveted position on lap four by Darren Brown.

Darren Brown, from El Cajon, California, was the man on a mission once again wasting no time to develop a sizable interval between him and the rest of the field. About halfway through the main event, Brown felt some pressure by some fast company. San Jose, California’s Shawn Jones bore a significant amount of pressure on Brown, but Brown batted away each challenge.

Darren Brown held on to win for the second straight night with the Northwest Dwarf Car Speedweek and his third win in his last four starts. Shawn Jones was a respectable second over third finishing Shane Youngren. Taking home fourth was Fairfield, California’s Mike Grenert while Jack Van Ortwick ended his evening in fifth.

Group qualifying was in use in the format. Earning quick time awards were Mike Grenert, Galt, California driver Ryan Winter, Danny Wagner of Bay Point, California, Shawn Jones, and Jake Van Ortwick. Earning heat race wins were Darren Brown, Winter, Wagner, Jones, and Chad Cardoza of Trail. There were two consolation features contested with Campbell River, British Columbia’s Brian Lee and Stockton, California native Jonathon Henry beating the competition.

The Northwest Dwarf Car Week of Speed remains at Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday, August 14th. The date was initially intended to be at Willamette Speedway, but the race transferred to CGS. Will Darren Brown continue in his winning ways or will his streak be snapped?

Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:30, and Time Trials at 5:30 with racing beginning at 6:00. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults, Seniors/Juniors/Military $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children (5 & Under) are FREE.
