Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday, September 5th, would be the first of two nights of action at Cottage Grove Speedway over Labor Day Weekend. Six divisions were on the card including Limited Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and IMCA Sport Compacts.

Winston’s Kyle Alberding would earn the victory in the Limited Sprints. It is Alberding's first win at CGS in 2020 and he is the fifth different winner this year.
Shane Forte, of Junction City, and Arlington, Washington traveler, Brett McGhie, were second and third. Don Waddell, from Roseburg, placed fourth with fifth going to Brian Boswell, also of Roseburg.

In IMCA Modified action, Eston Whisler picked up a huge win. Already a Late Model winner earlier this season the Otis teenager achieved his first Modified victory of the campaign. Keizer’s John Campos was the runner-up over third finishing Jake Mayden, from Springfield. Veterans Aaron Sheelar, of Springfield, and Paul Rea, of Eugene, wrapped up the top five in fourth and fifth.

In the Late Models, it would another Whisler in victory lane. Jimmy, Eston’s father, collected his third Late Model win at “The Grove” and his second in a row. Medford veteran Mark Wauge posted a second-place result over third-place Brian Smith, of Lebanon, and racing for car owners Jerry and Mandee Casey. Fourth went to Doug Elkins, from Salem, while crossing the finish line in fifth would be Sweet Home’s Kye Frick.

Another new face emerged victorious in the IMCA Sport Mods.
Mike DeSilva, of Springfield, got the job done and visited victory lane at Cottage Grove for the first time in around a decade. DeSilva’s nephew, Springfield chauffeur Daniel Ray, was a respectable second while taking home third was Michael Melton, of Battle Ground, Washington.
Isaac Sanders, from the coastal city of Brookings, collected fourth and behind him, in fifth, was Roseburg’s David Schmidt.

In the Street Stocks, Garrett Barth had a breakout performance. The Creswell racer took home his first win of the season after several decent runs.
Michael Hollingsworth, also from Creswell, posted a second-place finish over Eugene’s Adam Applebee, in third.
Creswell veteran Barney Hamilton came out for the first time in a while and ended the race fourth, in the Jake Mayden owned entry, while the top five was completed by fifth finishing Eric Freeman, of Cottage Grove.

Last but not least were the IMCA Sport Compacts. Burnie Bryant, from Sutherlin, picked up his second win in the IMCA Sport Compacts which now makes his tied for the most victories in the division this year. Eugene’s Brad Moffett was second and third went to Ricky Ashley, of Thurston, in the Randy Kuhl car. The balance of the top five would consist of Cottage Grove’s Kerry Cooper and Mark Milligan, from Eugene.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Sunday, September 6th for the second night of the doubleheader weekend. Classes in action will once more be the Limited Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and IMCA Sport Compacts.
