Thompson And Kress Score Tuesday Week Of Speed Wins At Cottage Grove
Cottage Grove, Oregon- The Week of Speed motored their way into Cottage Grove Speedway on Tuesday, August 17th. Twenty-four Sprint Car teams, a part of the Interstate Sprint Car Series, and twenty-four Dwarf Cars were all on hand. It was the second race for both groups in their 2021 Speedweek.

Burlington, Washington’s Justin Youngquist took the reigns early in the twenty-five lap ISCS feature. Racing for car owners Matt and Lisa Dynes, Youngquist, was overtaken on the second lap by Eric Turner of Lake Stevens, Washington. However, a few laps later, Justin was back in the top spot after the sixth circuit.

Unfortunately, Justin Youngquist would spin on lap ten, resulting in the top place position going back to Eric Turner. Shortly after the restart, Roseburg racer Steven Snawder was able to navigate around Turner to go into first place.

As the field eventually caught up to traffic, Snawder wheel hopped a lapped car allowing Tyler Thompson to move past him for the top spot. Thompson, of Harrisburg, remained there the rest of the distance to win his sixth career ISCS series victory and a series-leading fourth Speedweek victory.

Tacoma, Washington’s Evan Margeson was second, followed by Camden Robustelli of Central Point and racing the T.J. and Stacy Winningham owned entry, in third. Eric Turner and Cottage Grove native Kinzer Cox were fourth and fifth. Justin Lemon, from Cottage Grove, won the consolation feature.

In Dwarf Car competition, Josh Rodgers of St. Helens paced the field early. He held down the desired spot for some time before Chris Kress passed him on lap nine. Kress, from Roseburg, had to deal with some fast company and a couple of restarts.

Despite all the pressure, Chris Kress went on to win the main event holding back all challengers. Roseburg’s Anthony Pope was second, with Josh Rodgers earning third. Adam Walker, from Mt. Angle, ended the race fourth with Boring chauffeur Dave Bruhn getting fifth. The B Main was to be won by Fred Hay from Eagle Point.

Cottage Grove Speedway takes the weekend off due to the Western Oregon Exposition. The next set of events will be Friday, August 27th, and Saturday, the 28th, for the Herz Precision Parts Wingless Nationals. For more information, log on to the track website and Facebook page.
