Cox, Campos, Bloom post September 5 wins at CGS
By Craig Murphy
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Two straight nights of racing at Cottage Grove Speedway wrapped up Sunday evening, September 5.

In the Interstate Sprint Cars, Cottage Grove’s Kinzer Cox led at the start and at the end. Four cautions slowed the main event. Cox dominated to win over Medford’s Camden Robustelli, who won the previous night. Rounding out the top five were Johnny Burke, Justin Lemon and Brett McGhie.

In the caution-free Late Model main, Willie Sutton led the field to green before yielding the top spot to Thomas Hunziker. With five laps to go, Rob Campos got by for the top spot and held on for the weekend sweep. It was the third win of the year at the 1/4-mile dirt oval for the Scio driver, who had started shotgun on the field. Behind Campos at the end were Hunziker, Mike Peters, Chuck Christian and Mark Thompson.

In the IMCA Sport Compacts, Brent Wells led at the start of the main. Ray Bloom put the Randy Kuhl entry into the lead early and held off Madilynn Ashley for the win. Rounding out the top five were Jack Vicari, Kerry Cooper and Saturday’s winner Andrew Langan.

This Saturday, September 11 will be 9/11 Rememberance Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. It is our honor to recognize the thankless work of our first responders by giving them free general admission. On the card will be a Modifieds versus Sportmods showdown for bragging rights. The top-eight in points for each class will be pitted against each other in the ultimate racing battle. The winning class will receive free pits passes for all participating drivers and their crew chiefs for both nights of championship weekend.

Also on hand will be 360 Sprints, Street Stocks and Economy Midgets. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children ages 12-17, military and seniors, $5 for youth ages 6 to 12, and free for youth 5 and under. Front gates open at 3:30 p.m., with hot laps and qualifying at 6 followed by racing at 6:30. For more information, check out cottagegrovespeedway.com or the track’s Facebook page.
